  5. Hi Robin, I just recently got a EM-10 and 12-40 2.8 Lens, reading your blog and seeing your beautiful pictures convince me to move to the Olympus M43 world from Sony A65.
I'm thinking of getting a prime lens, either the 45 or 25 F1.8, what is your suggestion? It seems that 45mm will complement my lens range since i already own 12-40.
However I'm planning to take mostly food pictures & scenery which it seems the 25mm will be more useful? Would the DOF & speed differ much from the 25 1.8 with 12-40?

    1. Hi Ken,
The 25mm and 45mm are different lenses giving different coverage and perspective. Therefore they should not be compared side by side. It all comes down to your shooting preference, whether you prefer the normal 50mm perspective (25mm F1;8) or the classical portrait tighter framing of the 45mm F1.8 lens. There is no clear answer and only you can decide which is best for your own shooting! But whichever lens you decide you won't regret because both are awesome lenses.

    3. Ken: don't consider the 45mm just because of the extra 5mm... that's a very small difference. Only get the 45mm if you need the 1.8 Aperture. (well and size/weight) of course.
Same goes for the 25mm of course.
There is also the 17mm 1.8 to consider. I prefer that one for indoors low light shooting when I invite friends for dinner for example.
The 25mm could be used for that as well I guess.
      Cheers, Oliver

    1. Hey Rob,
No, not really. It was not an insect! And the camera and lens obviously will not move away or hide in difficult positions.
Therefore, shot with E-PL5 and 12-50mm, and two flash units mounted on stands placed one on the right of the frame and one on the left. Yes, fired wirelessly of course.

    2. Well, great detail! This would make a fantastic product shot for Olympus marketing material.

  7. 60mm Macro is outside my budget for now, just trying to decide one prime for now, either the 45 or 25.

    2. Check the Olympus USA outlet store on their website from time to time. http://www.getolympus.com/us/en/outlet/reconditioned-lenses.html?icn=topnav&ici=savingsnav_outlet-recon-lenses They had the 60mm Macro for $320 there the other day. Looks like it's gone now, but they list some from time to time. Got my 45mm f1.8 there for a really good deal several months ago. They have the 12-40mm f2.8 there for $640!
